Most of the time when they spend the wheel, they landed on McLean Stevenson! This is done on purpose. The wheel is controlled. And McLean always gives a dumb answer and he does not match the contestants.

OK. So I like the new part where each panelist answers every question regardless of whether they had matched before. I don't know why they didn't do it that way from the beginning. But I don't like the Quick Match, or whatever they called it. That was just pointless. No comedic interaction between the host, panelists, and contestants, which is, or is supposed to be, a major part of the show. I can tell that I'm not going to be as into this version as I was to the 70s and syndicated versions. Part of that is my fault. I lived away from the U.S. in 1988 and 1989, then again from 1992 until now. The only two panelists I know are CNR and Sally Struthers. And it took me a moment on the gardener question. I had to remember that George Bush was president at the time. So I don't know many of the celebrities, and I don't know much about (pop) culture from that time period on. (I recall him moving "downstairs" before, but for only a question or two...) We begin the game portion of our show with the champion's third visit to the Super-Match. She's scored the $500 answer both times previously, but has yet to score a H/H match (having tried with Betty and Donna so far). *Today's (first) audience match question: "Dodge________"* (My thoughts: City, Dart, Ball) The celebs: Bill (Ball), Betty (City), Jack (Dart) - Yes, I came up with all my answers while the video was on pause, before hearing what the celebs would say. Amazingly, our answers matched. Especially the "Dart", as I was just throwing that out there, not quite sure when that model was on the market. The choice: Dart (She says it was her first thought, but the audience groans...) The answers: Dart, Ball, City The champ adds $100 to her slowly growing prize bundle. The wheel chooses Donna for the second time in a row. Plus, it's another double! Stats: This is Donna's second shot at a head-to-head question. She and the champion didn't match yesterday (1324), but both gave good answers. *Today's H/H question: "_______Your Arms"* (Cross? Bare? Huh. This one sounds weird to me. I have to say "cross" your arms.) Our champion doesn't look thrilled. Maybe that's just her neutral expression. Donna is writing already. When she files her card, it's turned so that the answer was quite visible. I won't spoil it here if you didn't catch it, but it was not one of my choices. The champ is ready with an answer. "Fold," she says. Gene approves, and the audience response is at least a 9. I already know how this ends, so... "Fold" for $2,000. Donna Pescow becomes the 53rd MG celebrity to score a head-to-head match! This was her second attempt. ~~~~~ Four wins wasn't in the cards for this champion. She's soundly defeated after three victories. Her winnings total $3,400. *Today's (second) audience match question: "Grey________"* (Hmm. The British spelling. Odd.) (My thoughts: Poupon, Hair, Hound) The celebs: Betty (Whale), Brett (Hair), Donna (Mare) The choice: Matter (He goes with his own answer! The audience does not approve this time...) The answers: Hair, Mare, Hound Oh no. Our new champion strikes out on his first audience match. ~~~The Week that Was: A fun and wacky week, panel-wise, one of the best of recent weeks. The antics at the close of today's program are so very "Match Game"! I've said it before, but this sort of goofing around is what separated this show from "routine" game shows. It was (and still is for me) more about the personalities than the game itself. Although I think "Password" and even ""X Thousand Dollar Pyramid" are better games, the shows simply weren't as entertaining overall, and I would never go back and watch them all over the way I've done for this show. In fact, there's not a single other game show that I would care to watch old episodes of. It wasn't too hot a week in the head-to-head department, though. Two question in 1322 gave us 6 for the week (an audience match fail today cost us a seventh, if there was time), but when all was said and done, there were only 2 matches. - Our tally for this week: Jack Klugman 0/1, CNR 1/1, Betty 0/1, Donna Pescow 1/2 Of note, this was Jack Klugman's fifth and final week on the panel (too bad, because he was entertaining all week), and now his H/H stats are complete: 2 matches out of 6 attempts (33.3%) This was also Bill Anderson's final week (of 6). He was a perfectly fine guest panelist who never got a shot at a H/H question. This was Donna Pescow's first of only two weeks. She seems calm and quiet (maybe it's just because Jack was so loud and outgoing), but she played the game well and gave a good answer to the first H/H, although it didn't match the contestant's, but she scored the match on her second shot! We'll see her again towards the end of the show, in episodes 1411-1415. ~~~Looking ahead, here's who will be joining our steadfast Brett & Charles next week: -----Fill-in semi-regular Mary Wickes, returning for her 14th and final week on the show. Mary last appeared way back in 1246-1250, so it's been a while. I don't consider her an official sixth-seat semi-regular, although this is her fifth week in that spot. She has never played a head-to-head question (so far). -----Loretta Swit will return for her 10th week (of 11 total). Early in the show, she was a fairly regular guest panelist, but she hasn't appeared since way back in 1976 (episodes 850-854), so that's quite a gap. Loretta has occupied all the "female" chairs: She was in #2 for weeks 5, 11, and 13 of the show. They slotted her into seat #6 for weeks 18, 23, and 48. All her remaining weeks, including this one and her upcoming final week (episodes 1416-1420) are in seat #4. Loretta was called on twice by a contestant for the head-to-head, and she achieved one match. -----Richard Paul will return for his 4th week (of 5 total). He last joined the panel in 1291-1295, and his final week will be 1411-1415. This will be his second week in the #5 seat. This old match game with Gene Rayburn, is so much better than that new match game that they had! It’s real it’s to the point. It’s the way that this country used to be! It’s too bad that almost all of them are gone now. I know that Joyce Bulifant is still alive! and so is Bert Braverman, there’s just a couple of them. JOYCE had just written a book! And she still looks as beautiful as ever! And Bert Braverman is much better good looking than he was before. He has been through a lot. Yes I do. Miss BRETT mouthing OFF.
